Favorite video this year (of my own)
This is always hard, but I think I have to go with "Oh No!!!" because Prince Yu, man. I am so happy I was able to make a vid for this amazingly pathetic, terrible man and it worked out so well. Honorable mentions are "Do It All The Time", "Start Wearing Purple" and of course, "Defying Gravity".
Least favorite video
The one that I finished but haven't published yet because there's something missing and I haven't been able to figure out what.
Most successful video
If I go by AO3 comments, it would be "Here It Goes Again" although those results are skewed because of Festivids. "Do It All The Time" got the most Youtube views, unsurprisingly.
Video most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion
I can't complain!
Most fun video
Start Wearing Purple was an absolute blast to make and I always have fun rewatching it. Defying Gravity is also obviously very fun, but I was going through a really shitty time while making it so I can't say that I was having fun, really.
Video with the single sexiest moment
Hmm. Actually the Festivids I've made so far are very sexy but I can't talk about those yet. I think my sexiest vid this year is probably "Pump It" actually, mostly thanks to Christina Ricci.
Biggest vid fail
Again, there's a vid I've had lying around for most of the year but haven't posted and I might never get around to fixing it, which is something that's never happened to me before.
Hardest video to make
Definitely "Do It All The Time". Those panel effects are SO MUCH WORK. And timing everything correctly, oh man.
Most unintentionally telling video
The fact that I immediately thought of the Glee version for "Defying Gravity" is maybe a little embarrassing. But I stand by it as the right choice for the vid.
Things I learned this year
How to brighten clips and do color correction. Unfortunately now I have to do that all the time and I hate it.
My vidding goals from last year
Last year I wrote:
"I want to go back to some of the bigger projects that have been on the backburner for a while. I also want to experiment with my editing style more and maybe try some slower-paced stuff."
Well, I went back and finished "Do It All The Time" which I started in 2020. But didn't really do anything else to clear up my backlog. I did do a little bit of slower paced stuff with "No Place Like Home" and there's also some unposted vids where I've been trying that. I do think I still have a very set way of editing that I find it hard to break out of.
Goals for 2022
I hate to say it, but I want to try and put more effort into color work (or like, any effort at all, since I haven't really done this in vids I've published so far). I've also done a lot of thinking about the kinds of vids I choose to make. I think my biggest struggle is with sincerity; I tend to go for funny stuff, and even my more serious vids tend to have a bit of a sarcastic edge in there somewhere. Not that that's bad, but I feel it creates a certain distance between me and my work. I'd like to try to make something more heartfelt.

Date: 2022-01-02 06:05 pm (UTC)The first vid I made that I considered personal was my MCS Cycles vid. But weirdly, now that I made it, that feeling is no longer there. It's just a vid like any other I made lol.
It's not helped that I mostly vid for festivids, but that's part of the "vids I choose to make" thing, isn't it.
Also thinking about why I make this distinction at all, why I feel the need to make a vid that's more heartfelt and what makes it that. Maybe the thing closest to my heart is just the inherent hilarity of physical comedy set to an upbeat song!

Date: 2022-01-02 06:53 pm (UTC)It's just, sometimes I watch vids that are so genuinely, deeply moving and like, I see people's reactions to them and I go "Could I do that? Could I make people feel big things?" because I'm not sure anything I've made does that? So it's become almost like a weird insecurity I have. Which is maybe silly.
I also totally feel that thing about having more distance to a vid once you post it. It's so weird sometimes, because it's great to get a lot of engagement on a vid but then also the more feedback I get, the more it gets away from me and stops feeling like a thing that's personal to me? Idk.
