Vid Roundup 2022
Jan. 3rd, 2023 04:05 pmIt has certainly been a year! Started off with a real festivids bang, and then immediately fell into a fandom obsession that lasted all year. The result: A frankly unreasonable amount of vids. Hasn't happened to me in a while!

Favorite video this year (of my own)
This is really hard, but I'll go with "Everybody Loves Me" because I put all of my blorbo feelings into that vid and I love how it turned out.
Least favorite video
I felt like I could have gotten more out of "Rich Friends" but there was a deadline to consider so it didn't happen. Still happy with the end result though!
Most successful video
Going by Youtube views, it's "I Did Something Bad" which is likely because of the post-Season 5 interest boost in Cobra Kai. It's a good vid, so that's fine by me! By AO3 kudos, it's "Fan Behavior," also a vid I'm very proud of.
Video most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion
Everybody Loves Me. Like I said it's my favorite Cobra Kai vid I made, but it's gotten the least attention. Probably because it's not shippy. Oh well!
Most fun video
I honestly had a blast with so many of these - I'm just gonna pick "Baby One More Time" because it's such a perfect song to source match and basically vidded itself.
Video with the single sexiest moment
I gotta go with "It's Gonna Be Me" because the badass Guillermo montage can't be beat.
Biggest vid fail
I tried to do a fancam-style vid with "Short King Miyagi" and I think I mostly failed at the format, but the vid still turned out great, so whatever.
Hardest video to make
"She Bangs," oviously. So much source! So much of it just on the verge of unusable. It was an absolute nightmare, but the heart wants what the heart wants I guess.
Most unintentionally telling video
Also "She Bangs". Not that it can really be called "unintentional," I knew exactly what I was doing there.
Things I learned this year
Between What We Do in the Shadows and Cobra Kai, I think this year more than anything taught me how to use fight scenes in a vid.
My vidding goals from last year
Last year I wrote:
"I hate to say it, but I want to try and put more effort into color work (or like, any effort at all, since I haven't really done this in vids I've published so far). I've also done a lot of thinking about the kinds of vids I choose to make. I think my biggest struggle is with sincerity; I tend to go for funny stuff, and even my more serious vids tend to have a bit of a sarcastic edge in there somewhere. Not that that's bad, but I feel it creates a certain distance between me and my work. I'd like to try to make something more heartfelt."
Now, the first part I definitely succeeded at, since I had to do a shitton of color work for all my CK vids. The second part... not so much. Maybe I need to just accept that this is who I am!
Goals for 2022
There's a couple of vids I started before I fell into Cobra Kai obsession that I really need to get back to. And I definitely want to do a better job of having premieres for cons again this year. Other than that... I rushed a lot of vids last year because I was impatient to get them out, seeking that instant gratification that comes from having an active fandom. I want to go back to letting my vids sit for a while, because it tends to improve them a lot. Also I'd like to try collaborating again, if the opportunity comes up.
