Title: Best Friend
Fandom: The Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz / The World's End)
Summary: It's just us two, it's deja-vu, it's what we know. A.k.a. a vid about a bromance that transcends movie canon.
Song: "Best Friend" by Sofi Tukker (Lyrics)
Runtime: 2:24
Content Notes: Canon-typical violence and bloodshed, though there's little focus on it. A zombie gets impaled out of focus and a beheaded robot with blue blood is seen. A lot of fairly fast cutting. Sudden RPF.

The idea for the ending of this vid occured to me after I'd already finished clipping the movies, and had done quite a bit of vidding already. It was one of those true galaxy-brain moments where I just suddenly went "Wait, 'shit to shoot' has a third meaning! They're literally shooting all these movies together! Oh my god!" out loud. My girlfriend can attest to this, as she was sitting beside me at the time.

This was of course very terrible because it meant I had to go back and clip all of the special features as well. And there are a lot of them, especially for Hot Fuzz. Simon Pegg did a whole series of vlogs. My favorite scene I found in the special features was one where Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright have to make it through a long series of telephone interviews, during which they get so bored that at some point they all start undressing and literally spanking each other while trying to keep a straight face (or voice, as it were) answering questions. What a bunch of idiots.

This vid also significantly increased my admiration for Edgar Wright as a filmmaker. These movies are so insanely viddable, it's incredible. I found that I could not crop a single shot, because it would just ruin it. The camera is just so deliberate, every shot contains exactly the right amount of information and the framing always seems to be perfect. The only thing that could be frustrating was that there is a lot of very fast cutting. Not that I can fault anyone for that, but it can make it hard to vid. Honestly there were some sequences I went through frame by frame that I could not for the life of me figure out how they even work and make sense to the human brain. But they do work.

Anyways, I definitely consider these movies masterpieces, and obviously personal faves, and it was a joy to vid them. I hope my love for these two strange and beautiful human beings shines through.

This was so much fun to watch! I'm delighted I got to see it on the big screen. It was particularly lovely to see all the behind the scenes/commentary clips mixed in as well (did you know that Simon and Edgar had a cameo in Land of the Dead, because George A. Romero liked Shaun of the Dead so much? They even make it into the behind the scenes feature for that movie.)

I know that Simon and Nick have made films separately, some of which I like, but I think these are the best of their films, and I love how you've captured that feeling of fun and excitement that goes with each one - even when there are garden fences in the way.

Ahhh, this is perfect, what a great tribute to these two and their beautiful friendship/working relationship. And to Edgar! I completely agree with you about his direction, it's brilliant :D
